Portrait of Maggie

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Jack Russell Dog Art Pet Portrait Commission

Oil on stretched canvas, 12" x 9"

Maggie has a trademark pose, it seems, of curling her left paw under while stretched out and relaxing in her family's home.  I think she feels confident of herself and her place in life and that shows in her portrait.  This was such a nice commissioned piece to complete

"Uber" Original oil painting by Leslie Newman size 6x12

"UBER"oil on canvas 6x12

Meet Uber, a darling rescue dog that lives with my Vet, Dr DeDe Moore at Faithful Friends in Rogers.
She has a massive amt of hair, and incredible light blue eyes.
We had been back and forth to the vet with our Dog Ollie recently and spent some time with her. I knew
when I met her, I had to paint her.
So, enjoy this sweet puppy, Uber. I hope Dr Dede enjoys this painting as a little early
Christmas surprise.

Ribbon and Red

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Still Life Ornament Art Christmas Holidays

Oil on hardboard, 6" x 6"

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone it's time for Christmas decorations!  I painted one of my red bulbs neslted in some ribbon with accents in sparkly gold tones.  Painting the shiny roundness of the ornament was the most fun in this piece.

Magnolia and China

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Still Life Flower Art

Oil on Raymar panel 8" x 6"

It's not actually a Thanksgiving theme because spring Magnolia blooms are in the painting, but I wanted to repost the painting because it included a piece of my mother's china which was always used at Thanksgiving and Christmas too.  I saw that the color of the Magnolia blooms were echoed in the china and that was the hook for me to paint this still life.

Resting at Stone Bridge

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Figurative Landscape Palette Knife Art Autumn Trees Forest

Oil on canvas, 14" x 11"

While hiking at Mt. Nebo state park in Arkansas recently, I captured a really nice composition of another hiker on a stone bridge with my camera.  The lighting was fantastic.  The basic forms were easy to read and I loved that.  I kept it loose and used a palette knife for most of the painting, and I decided that the figure should be integrated into the woodland setting which would be best for the painting overall. And by the way, just for the record, the resting hiker was my husband.

Westie Takes a Break

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Pet Dog Art Portrait West Highland Terrier

Oil on canvas panel, 8" x 6".

This cute Westie is taking a short break but will be ready for more play and action soon.  He just needs to catch his breath!  He probably does a lot of sliding on the wood floor too when he's after something.

Karen's Bouquet

Karen's Bouquet
8x10 oil on panel

This is a painting I gave to Karen just today. She is a friend of ours, who works with my Husband Mark.
Karen is a new bride who was married last month to a great guy named Jack. Mark and I went to her lovely wedding. When we were leaving the reception, I noticed her beautiful bouquet laying
on the table by her cupcake wedding cake. I took several pictures of it.

Two weeks ago when I was looking at my pictures, I remembered taking this and just had to paint it.
I delivered it to her after lunch today and she was delighted with it. She had a gorgeous bouquet and I feel like I really captured it, and Karen agreed.I love being able to paint for people and make it a surprise. The feeling fromthat makes me want to head back to my home studio and start another painting. Enjoy!

Saluki Portait

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Dog Art Pet Portrait

Watercolor on Arches, 2.5" x 3.5"

I enjoyed painting ACEO's because I learned how to include the needed detail and drama in such a small format.  This was one of my favorites.

Wet Autumn

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Landscape Art Autumn Trees Forest Woodlands

Oil on hardboard, 7" x 9"

This was one of several interesting forest "still lifes" that I composed with my camera on a recent hike.  In this one, rocks and tree limbs are surrounded by a very shallow creek filled with fallen colorful leaves.  It was an attempt to capture the feeling of the place with its intense coloring and movements of shapes.  Only in a few places could I see the reflection of the blue sky above.

Another One

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Jack Russell Dog Art Pet Portrait Water

Oil on stretched canvas, 6" x 8" x 3/4".

One of my favorite commissions from the past was this J.R.Terrier retrieving his ball in his family's pool.  These wild and crazy Jack Russells usually love the water.  And I've found from experience that they will do pretty much whatever they like, and they think they are smarter than their people in some families. But they are so darn cute and sweet!.  What can one do?!

California Mountaintops

California Mountaintops
 Oil 18x24

This painting of California Mountaintops was done for a friend
of my Son Eric.
A fellow firefighter with my son, Jake and his wife Lauren asked
I paint this picture to give to Laurens brother at his wedding.
Evidently, this is a favorite spot of her Brother, and this is where he proposed to his wife.

The photo reference I was given for this painting was black and white. It was
very difficult to do. I embelished the foreground as if I was standing on the
side of a hill in a grassy or wildflower area.

Trail-Happy Lab

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Labrador Retriever Dog Art Pet Portrait Woods

Oil on hardboard, 10" x 8"

A great thing about Labs is that the are always ready for a hike and especially when its up rough, hilly terrain and in a great woodsy environment.  This angle of a yellow Lab captures the reflected coloring on her face, neck and chest from the forest plants and sky. That was the hook for me and her intense concentration of something in the distance was kind of  like the icing on the cake.  I'm still keeping the paint heavier and strive for a looser feeling in the piece.
