I've painted my pug, Mabel many times over the last fifteen years and she always has great expressions.  This painting was done from a photo of her being held by a child and she's looking at the camera like a good model.  I painted only her and she looks like she's shrugging with one shoulder with her fat rolls pushed up to one side. Her expression was either one of great enthusiasm or great superiority I thought!

This fun 5x5 I did for the 5x5 event coming up at the

Art Center of the Ozark's. Several hundred artists and non-artist design these 5x5's. They 

Have a big Soirée with wine, music and finger food. Everyone bids on

The small and varied works starting at $25.00. Some receive lots of bids, 

others not so much.

It is a fun evening and a great fundraiser for the Art Center.

This is a picture of me holding one of the 5x5's that was
auctioned off that evening. Both of my paintings were auctioned off
to benefit the Art Center of the Ozarks. This one an artist friend
of mine won the bid. She couldn't resist it for her own studio. I had my husband snap a
picture of me holding it after she had just purchased it.
What an enjoyable night it was.
     

Calla Bloom Debra Sisson Oil Painting Lilly Still Life Flower Art Botanical Garden

I'll have to admit that I was inspired to paint a Calla Lilly again after I saw a friend's entry to one of our local art center's annual competitions.  My Calla is different as far as the color of  bloom and background and also hers is a large watercolor and mine is a smaller, intimate oil.  I saw the fun (in my mind) of painting a tall white bloom against a dark background.  Colors bounce around in the light and create interest among the white tones.  The Calla Lilly stalks are sturdy and their blooms display intricate, sensual forms. They always make great subjects to experiment with and learn from .  So, thanks, Jeanette, for reminding me of these beauties!

The art center provides the blank canvas, and we work our magic!

"Best Friends"

I think this has to be a favorite painting! I am so happy how it turned out!

This painting is of my son when he was about 8, (he just turned 30 two weeks ago.) 

 Our Golden retriever, pictured here with him was taking a

Sun bath under our coffee table. Eric snuggled up with her. I noticed how cute

It was and I ran for our camera to get a pic of it. I am so glad I did!

This painting is of one of my 3 Grandchildren, Whitney.

About 2-3 months ago, the sun was low in the sky and shining

right into her face and this big bloom. The flower was

reflecting into her face. This painting was a

gift to our son, her father, for his 30th birthday.

I have many variaties of Daylilies and I always enjoy painting them. I chose this pink/purple variety with white ruffled edges for my first subject in a simple jam jar. Their yellowish green centers are really the most attractive features to me. Daylilies deserve being displayed on doilies too!

Meet Vlad!

Vlad is a Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, owned by our groomer

Jim Purdy. Jim  owns and runs Dig My Dog, a grooming and boarding salon

In Springdale, Arkansas.

Jim breeds and shows these wonderful dogs. The have a reverse coarse

Line of coat that runs down the middle of their backs, making a definite 

Ridge, hence the name.

This painting is of an area in NE

Oklahoma with runoff and a watershed area

of the Illinois river.

This is an area my son and some of his buddies like to go to

do a little off roading.

In addition, this Illinois River watershed are is the subject of

a online juried show.

The Midwestern Artist's Association Salon is having a juried show at Compton's 

gardens showcasing the watershed area. Today was the deadline to enter the show.

In addition to this show, I have signed up to paint

30 paintings in 30 days with a challenge by 

Leslie Saeta. Leslie is a fabulous palette knife oil painter. 

Over 300+ painters have signed up for this

Challenge. I look forward to this fun challenge!
