Sleepy Foal

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Horse Art Portrait Farm Animals Country Equine

Oil on Raymar panel, 11" x 14".

I was interested in the light falling on the foal's body and the deep shadows establishing her form.  Her sleepy face was an additional delight!  With her mother so near she looked safe and satisfied.

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Dog Portrait Animal Pet Commission

Oil on Canvas, 10" x 8".

A beautiful Border Collie enjoying the ocean water was another fun commission piece.  Allie was exploring the the coastline of the Cape of Briten in Nova Scotia.  This was the first time I painted a wet Collie and it was interesting.

Sunset With Country Cottage

Debra Sisson Oil Landscape Painting Sky Clouds Fields Trees

Oil on stretched canvas, 10" x 8"

The intense sunset quickly darkened with storm clouds after a brief colorful scene of the distant house and trees. It was well worth the time it took to snap a few photos!

Black and White Billy Goat

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Goat Portrait Farm Animal Pet Portrait

Oil on Canvas, 10" x 8".

This goat looks very different from his personality.  He appears to have the markings and horns suited for a battle.  He's really a gentle sweetie though.

Leaf scape abstract 16x20 day 30 in 30 day challenge...day 8

Leaf abstract

Day 8 of the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge.

Leaf abstract
16x20 on  gallery wrapped canvas

This painting was done with thick paint applications with brushes
And pallet knives.

After which a lot of scraping down and re-application
Of more paint. There was a rubbing out done in some
Areas as well.
I added small leaf skeletons to different
Area. Some of the leaves I had glazed with paint
Before pressing into the paint., many I left plain and they
Are extremely subtle.
Below see a close up of the pressed leaf details that are hidden
Throughout the painting.

I am really starting to enjoy more
Abstract painting the older I get, it is not as
Easy as it looks!

I have heard that if you can turn your painting any direction
And it looks good, you have a successful painting.
That is entirely true with this painting.

I hope you have enjoyed my painting of leaf abstract! As always
I would love to hear from you, feel free to comment.
This painting was given to my close friend Dodie up in Iowa.

Wistful Pug II

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Dog Portrait Animal Pet

Oil on Canvas, 8" x 10".

Staying on the theme of Pugs, I painted one of my favorite images again from a few years ago.  His expressive eyes and wrinkle folds are adorable.  And so are the black felt-like ears!

Great Expectations 8x10 oil by Leslie newman

Great Expectations

This was a fun painting to do.
Great Expectations was one of three paintings I did
To enter into the Illinois river shed salon . This juried show is
Annual and is relatively new. The paintings must be completed within
The water shed area. When you enter your painting, you must provide the location
For the jurors to prove locations of the piece.

This yr I did three paintings
All three paintings were submitted by the deadline on September 2nd. I think I had 2 minutes to spare! LOL

Waiting patiently to hear about results today. If any of my painting are juried in,
They go into a show and reception at a local garden
and art venue called  Compton
Gardens in Bentonville,NW Arkansas. The top 5-6 winners, then get to have their paintings
Put on display at Crystal
Bridges Museum of American Art.
How exciting that would be!
I feel like this is my  strongest piece of the three.
I was driving over a bridge and saw this shining water with a blue heron studying the
Water looking for a snack, thus the name of the painting,
Great Expectations

I hope you will view my other blog at:

I am participating in a 30 paintings in 30 day challenge
With a California palette knife painter,
Leslie Saeta. She is so talented. It you simply google
30 paintings in 30 days you will find it. You are looking for the September
2014 challenge.

I would love to hear any comments you might have!

Wise and Ageless Pug

Debra Sisson Oil Painting Dog Portrait Animal Pet

Oil on Canvas, 12" x 9".

I finished another portrait of my then elder pug, Mabel.  My lovely sweetheart passed into spirit in July at the wise old age of fifteen years and will always remain my faithful but very outspoken companion in life!  I am still in awe at how she retained her funny, joyful and accepting attitude throughout her sometimes difficult life.  She radiated beauty!
