Well, Merry Christmas everyone!!! I hope your Holiday is going great!

I am traveling and it is hard for to me to post than normal.

I will post more during the first week of Jan.

  This painting I did for my Mom two yrs ago as a Christmas 

present. Gunnar was a Standard Poodle. We enjoyed

him for 10 years. We had to put him to sleep when he became very ill.. Now my Mom has a 10 yr old

   black Standard named Vinnie who is also ill. So watch for a painting of him soon!

Table Rock Lake Debra Sisson Oil Painting Landscape Summer Branson Ozark Mountains Commission

I enjoyed this commissioned painting!  It is the view from a collector's deck on Table Rock lake in southwest Missouri, near Branson.  It will be a gift for her husband and I hope he likes it too.  The lake's reflections are still and serene.

Little Snoopy Oil Painting Still Life Art Christmas Vintage Toy

Oil on archival canvas panel, 6" x 8".

This cool "Little Snoopy" toy was found at a estate sale and the painting that resulted was purchased by someone who cherished this toy as a small child. Little Snoopy makes such an interesting and LOUD noise when pulled that my dogs go crazy to get at it. I have to keep it out of their reach or they will surely tear or chew it to pieces. I remember it from the 1960's. Its body, the tip of its tail, and the shoe that it carries are made of wood. Very cool! This would have been a great Christmas toy back then.

Two Basenjis Debra Sisson Oil Painting African Dog Art Pet Portrait Commission

Basenji dogs have such distinct features along with intelligent and sometimes comical expressions.  They really are characters when you meet them personally, which I've had the opportunity to do because my friend and neighbor has a cute one!  They are described as "barkless dogs", but they can make a bark-like sound if they really want to.

One Day

I observed a pow wow in Eureka Springs,AR and enjoyed the dances and the beautiful costumes . This young girl had been walking around and looking at the dancers. She stopped to watch and I guess she was thinking one day she would be out there performing.

Favorite Clock

This painting I did recently shows off a favorite Clock of mine.

It is a cream colored iron clock with a little rust on it.

My daughter Lindsey gave it to me several yrs ago. I set up a still life

with using this clock with some fresh orange and red flowers.
It is set up against a light yellow floral fabric background.

I apologize that the wet paint of this painting has glared and
lightened up the photo of the painting quite a bit.

I used my palette knife for textured work on the clock.

This painting is going to be a Christmas present for a very special person.
 I can't wait to give it to her.

Backlit by the morning sun, this young Golden Retriever sees something interesting.  I enjoyed using the subdued colors of her fur in shadow.  Her intense concentration seems to be in contrast to her still puppy-like features I think.  And that's just another interesting part of this painting that I wanted to explore.

Friendly Burro Oil Painting Donkey Art Pet Portrait Commission

This was a commissioned painting of a furry burro with a sweet, intelligent gaze.  Donkeys' ears are so interesting because they are ridiculously long and floppy.  I also love the fuzzy humps on their foreheads which are nice for scratching and rubbing.

I love to paint the red and yellow colors of D'Anjou pears, and this petite painting captures them at their shiny best.  Pears together always have great "body language".  I chose to use dramatic lighting to highlight this pair.

It is from a picture I took last yr down in Southeastern Fayetteville, AR.

Montezuma's Castle Debra Sisson Oil Painting Landscape Desert Western Sedona Arizona Ancient Ruins

The colors and shadows of these ancient dwellings were fascinating to paint.  My daughter recently visited Arizona with a friend from Phoenix. I asked her to take lots of pictures and she did!  I chose this subject first because of the colors and also the feeling of forms within forms going back into space.  Montezuma's Castle is a National Monument near Flagstaff and is actually misnamed  by early settlers because Montezuma was never there.  It is one of the best preserved cliff dwellings in North America.

Purple and White Viola Debra Sisson Oil Painting Still Life Flower Art botanical

Oil on stretched canvas, 7" x 5" x 3/4".

Lovely and cheerful violas come back every spring in a pot on my front porch and they glow in the sunlight. I painted this single bloom larger than it's real size because the blooms are very small.  I planted an additional patch this fall in the backyard so that I can enjoy even more of their sparkling "faces". 
The 3/4" sides are painted making framing optional.
